These are thoughts on etiquette as put forward by one of our more experienced players any comments are more than welcome.

Prior to any game.

Find out where you are playing.

Put all you need for the position you are playing in at the end of the green.

Pay any £ to your skip.

Socialise until game due to commence.

Greet Opposition. Visitors always have the mat to commence the game.

Always stand behind the head of bowls; where you can see the game so continuing the concentration.

Remember never move any bowls in the head until the three's have agreed the number of shots.

Make sure that when standing at the end of the rink you remain within your own rink, as straying can affect the players on the next rink.

Commencement of the game, time to concentrate.

2 trial ends of two woods each delivered one on the forehand and one back hand will give you a rough idea of how the green is playing though don't forget to allow for the weather as this can alter the green during the match.

Lead;  delivers the jack to as near as to where the skip has asked for. When (s)he has delivered his woods, which as lead should be one on the jack and one behind (not many of us achieve this but as near as possible) (s)he should concentrate on the game while the number two delivers his woods.

Two; Delivery of woods as near to where the skip has asked for. Remember that the keeping of the score card is your responsibility when each end is completed and when at home the score board as well.

Three; Delivery of woods where the skip and you have discussed (threes up) or as skip indicates (no threes up). (as 1&2 are changing over can't be included) unless the head alters and skip requests another shot to be made (threes up). It is your responsibility to agree the shots with the opposition number three and if any doubt measure.

Skip; Directs the game to win, by encouraging your players, telling them where their wood has arrived as to where they were asking for it to be so if needed they can adjust the length next time (this can be done by voice and hand signals). No measuring unless the three asks. (threes up)

The time to learn is all the way through the match; therefore concentration is essential and ask questions of the skip/ three if you don't understand why a shot is being played in a particular way.

Friendly matches are much the same as above but more relaxed and there is time to maybe have a chat but if you want to WIN concentration is needed.
